Global Health Leader · ML PhD Applicant
Actively Seeking PhD Opportunities
Bangladesh Civil Servant & Global Health Innovator bridging Field Command (HtRA) and National Data Strategy (eMIS) to pioneer Machine Learning solutions for maternal & child health. Fueled by personal loss, powered by a decade of frontline leadership.
The Story
Every data point has a human story behind it. Mine began in 1995 and has driven every decision since.
Losing my mother and sister to preventable postpartum hemorrhage ignited a lifelong commitment to ending healthcare inequity. This personal tragedy is the bedrock of everything I do — transforming grief into global health action.
Achieved 1st Position MSc at Bangladesh Agricultural University and earned MSc Merit from the University of Dundee, UK, focusing on rural nutrition and climate impacts on MNCH. Extended my global perspective through study in the USA via the Turing Mobility Scheme.
Over a decade serving the BCS, including 8.5 years commanding MNCH-FP in Hard-to-Reach Areas, supervising over 400 staff. Recognized with the Rector's Medal — Top 1% of 364 officers in foundation training.
Conceived and secured a2i/PMO funding for the award-winning Health-Info Mobile App. Co-architected the national "Mina" Pregnancy Risk Tool — named for my mother — now deployed nationally. Contributed to mHealth–eMIS integration across Bangladesh.
As Acting Deputy Program Lead, I oversee strategy for over 40 million national health records — providing an unparalleled vantage point for leveraging Big Data and AI to transform public health decision-making at the highest level.
This unique synthesis of lived experience, field command, proven digital health innovation, and national data leadership provides the perfect launchpad for high-impact PhD research at the intersection of Machine Learning and Global Health.
The Differentiator
Field command meets data science. A rare combination that few researchers can offer.
8.5+ years directing complex MNCH-FP operations and supervising 400+ staff in Bangladesh's most challenging Hard-to-Reach settings. Irreplaceable ground-truth understanding no textbook can provide.
From inventing award-winning apps (Health-Info) to co-architecting national clinical tools (Mina Risk Tool) and managing national big data (eMIS). Concepts translated to impact.
Intimate knowledge of the Bangladesh health system, policy landscape, cultural nuances, and human realities — ensuring ML solutions are not just technically sound but contextually appropriate and sustainable.
This rare fusion of battle-tested field leadership, government systems navigation, proven tech innovation, and strategic data stewardship at scale uniquely positions me to design, implement, and evaluate ML-driven health interventions for real-world, national-level impact.
Doctoral Vision
My doctoral research aims to bridge the gap between advanced AI capabilities and the practical realities of public health delivery in resource-constrained settings — grounded in real data, real systems, and real lives.
How can ethically developed Machine Learning models, validated on national health data (eMIS), be effectively integrated into MNCH-FP service pathways to significantly improve risk prediction, optimize resource allocation, and demonstrably reduce maternal/child mortality in Bangladesh — particularly in Hard-to-Reach Areas?
Develop and evaluate ML-powered predictive tools focusing on real-world feasibility, clinical utility, and quantifiable impact. Explore explainable AI (XAI), address data challenges, and design user-centric interfaces for health workers within existing systems.
My Ministry role provides unparalleled eMIS data access and operational insight. Combined with dual Masters (UK Merit), proven tech development (Mina Tool), and advancing skills in Python & SPSS, this creates an exceptional platform for impactful research.
Targeting world-leading institutions (Top 100) excelling in Applied AI/ML in Health, Implementation Science, and Global Health Policy. Seeking supervisors committed to rigorous science with tangible, life-saving applications.
Evidence of Impact
From national data strategy to award-winning app development — a track record of translating ideas into real-world change.
Guiding strategy for Bangladesh's core health database (>40M records), enabling data-driven decisions & laying groundwork for AI applications at the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare.
Co-developed and spearheaded the national launch of this clinical decision support tool — named for my mother — enhancing maternal risk identification across Bangladesh's entire health network.
Visit Mina ToolConceived, secured a2i/PMO government funding, and led development of this mobile health literacy app — earning national recognition and the prestigious 2017 Young Innovator Award.
Authored and co-authored peer-reviewed articles in international journals spanning Health and Agricultural Science. Active research profile demonstrating continuous scholarly engagement.
Google ScholarDirected large-scale MNCH-FP and Nutrition field operations for 8.5 years in high-need, Hard-to-Reach Areas — managing 400+ staff with demonstrated operational excellence in complex environments.
Key contributor to integrating mobile health data collection with the national eMIS system in challenging HtRA settings — partnering with organizations including Save the Children.
